Once a Panther, always a Panther.

We are deeply saddened by the closure of a fellow United Methodist-related institution. LaGrange College is rooted in the same Wesleyan heritage as Birmingham-Southern College. For BSC students seeking a similar faith-based environment, LaGrange College is prepared to welcome you. Since 1831 we have provided high-quality academic programs rooted in Wesleyan and liberal arts traditions. Within that context spring forth our core values of excellence, service, civility, diversity and inclusion. LaGrange College prepares students to become successful citizens who aspire to lives of integrity and moral courage.

We are ready to help you.

We understand that the last 18 months have left you uncertain about what’s next in your future. While we can’t undo the past, LaGrange College has a plan to take away that anxiety and guide you toward completion of the education you began at BSC. The details below outline our commitment to you. Please let us know what other questions you may have as you consider becoming a LaGrange Panther.

For all BSC students, LaGrange College will
  • Accept all courses taken at BSC with at least a grade of C-, including those from institutions you may have attended prior to BSC that were accepted by BSC;
  • Honor your current academic standing, as defined by BSC; and
  • To the extent possible, ensure that you remain on your current timeline to graduation.

For BSC students with 15 or more earned units (60 or more semester credit hours) by the end of Spring 2024
LaGrange College will help ensure that you remain on track to graduate on time.
  • Explorations Curriculum is still your general education curriculum.
You will complete the general education curriculum you began at BSC.  LaGrange College will accept BSC’s Explorations general education curriculum as satisfying our Ethos general education curriculum. For BSC students who need to complete additional Explorations courses when they arrive on LaGrange’s campus, we will identify classes for you to take that are as similar as possible to what you would have taken at BSC. You will not have to adjust to our Ethos curriculum. Note:  Your College Lecture and Arts Events are easily mapped into our Collegiate Enrichment Events. Your requirement of three (3) events per semester, as it is part of your Explorations curriculum, can be completed at LaGrange College. If you have completed all 24 of the College Lecture and Arts Events, you will not have to complete any of our Collegiate Enrichment Events.
  • Complete your current major.
In degree programs that LaGrange offers, we will ensure that you can graduate with the major you chose and the requirements you have been taking at BSC.  If there are additional requirements you still need to complete for your BSC major when you arrive on our campus, we will identify similar coursework at LaGrange for you to complete.  You will not complete requirements beyond what you needed to take at BSC.
  • Waive departmental or disciplinary requirements beyond major completion.
Any additional disciplinary requirements beyond completion of the Explorations curriculum and major will be waived.
  • Waive the graduation residency requirement.
While we feel that it’s most valuable for you to live on campus to experience the residence-based life at LaGrange College, the residency requirement for graduation will be waived for BSC students.

For BSC students with fewer than 15 earned units (equivalent to 59 or fewer semester credit hours) by the end of Spring 2024
LaGrange will help you determine the appropriate program for you to complete from our curriculum.
  • General education credit
LaGrange College will help you complete our Ethos general education curriculum. We will transfer any courses you have currently completed in your Explorations curriculum and apply them to our Ethos curriculum as much as possible.  Faculty advisors will then work with you to complete the rest of our Ethos curriculum during your time at LC.
  • Major credit
LaGrange College will accept courses you have currently completed toward a potential major at BSC and apply them to one of the many majors we offer. Faculty advisors will help you determine the rest of your major completion with minimized time to graduation.
  • Other major or disciplinary requirements
Faculty advisors will work with you to ensure that you complete any additional major or disciplinary requirements for graduation in a timely fashion.
